  • On Monday, March 30th, RHS is hosting a Big Feet Meet. The Big Feet Track Meet will be during the school day from 9:30-1:00. We are looking for volunteers to help with set up, stations, and clean up. If you would like to sign-up to volunteer, there will be sign-up sheets in the office and in the Library. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Eccles.

 Sports

  • Girls Soccer will meet in the teacher's conference room from 3-430 today.  Team Pictures are at 4:45pm and uniform is all red.

  • Yearbooks will be on sale through March 20th for $65. They are first come first serve. Order forms will be available in the main office and outside of Mrs. Carr's room. Students may turn money in before school, flex, and 5th period only. 
  • Seniors, are you going to After Prom on April 5th from midnight to 5 am at Putt Putt?  Sign up for your free ticket during lunches on March 17th, 18th, 19th, 24th, 26th, 31st, and April 1st and 2nd.  You can also purchase a ticket for your date if you are bringing a student from a different grade or from another school for $20.

 Sports

  • Track Practice will begin today at 3:15 on the track. All athletes must have their VHSL Physical Form before they can try out for the team.
  • Girls Soccer will be practicing on the Abbott Field Monday-Wednesday, Band Field on Thursday and Friday.  Always have indoor shoes with you in case of inclement weather and we move indoors.
  • Cheerleading open gym will start on today (Monday March 9th). If you have any questions, please see Coach Mitchell.

  • Today (March 4th), is the national campaign for Spread the Word to End the Word. Spread the Word: Inclusion is a global campaign working towards inclusion for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It started as Spread the Word to End the Word in 2009, a campaign to encourage people to pledge to stop using the word "retard" in a derogatory manner, but broadened its goals in 2020 to stop all derogatory words that do not promote inclusion and diversity. There will be a table in the commons areas during all lunches that will allow everyone to take the pledge to use more inclusive language. Please stop by today and join RHS as we promote inclusion.

 Sports

  • Rustburg’s Girls Track program placed 8th overall at the Group 3A Track & Field Championship. Congratulations to these three athletes Essence Celestine, Parker Goldstein and Emily Coates on placing in their events. Essence Celestine placed 5th overall in the 55 meter dash. Parker Goldstein placed 5th in the high jump. Emily Coates placed 3rd in the 55 meters and she placed 2nd in the 300 meter dash. She broke the school record in both events. Congratulations to all of the athletes on such an awesome season.--

  • This past Saturday, 20 French students traveled to Richmond to participate in the Congres (conGRAY) French convention, and several students placed in their competitions. Grace Beveridge won first place in level 2 Recitation, Rebecca Bingham won 3rd place in level 3 Dramatic Reading, Rebekah Funderburk won 3rd place in level 5 Slam Poetry, and David Johnson won 3rd place in level 5 Recitation. Congratulations to these students and to everyone who participated!

  • Representatives from Liberty University will meet with all interested students on March 31st during Flex for an informational session.  Following this meeting, any seniors who wish to apply may do so with help from college admissions officers.  Seniors wishing to apply need to bring a copy of their transcript(s) and their SAT/ACT scores.  The $50 application fee will be waived if seniors apply that day.  Sign up in the counseling office if you would like to attend.
  • Liberty University is having an Aviation Maintenance Open House on February 25 from 6 to 8 pm.  See the Counseling Office for additional information.

  • The VA Youth Conservation Corps program is now accepting applications.  This program provides PAID community service opportunities.  Applicants must be from ages 14-17.  Participants will live in Virginia state parks for three weeks over the summer and carry out park development and maintenance projects, receive environmental education, and engage in recreational activities such as hiking, caving, and canoeing.  Visit the Counseling Office for more information.
  • Longwood University’s Kinesiology program is hosting Biomechanics Day on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.  This event allows students to learn about the Kinesiology program through a behind-the-scenes tour of the Biomechanics Lab and participation in a variety of activities including 3D motion analysis, demonstrations of force plates and how they indicate how hard a person walks or lands from a jump, and experiencing how movement analysis is used to help prevent sports injuries.  This a great opportunity for any student interested in going into the careers of athletic training, sports medicine, or physical therapy.  Visit the Counseling Office for full details.
  • Just a reminder that Dual Enrollment Applications are due Wednesday Feb. 26th and STEM applications are due Friday Feb. 28th. Come by the counseling office if you have any questions.

  • Baseball tryouts begin today (Monday) at 3:15.
  • Tennis tryouts will start today (Feb 24th) thru the 26th at the tennis courts on the school campus from 3:00 to 4:30. You must have a physical on file to participate.
  • Cheerleading Open Gyms will start today (Monday, February 24th) from 5:00 - 6:30. You must have a valid physical in order to participate. If you have any questions, please see Coach Mitchell. 
  • Girls Soccer Tryouts will take place today (February 24-26) for those interested in playing JV or Varsity.  A sports physical is required for all activities.
