  • Administrative:  Reminder, spirit week is now over.  No hats or hoods should be worn in the building.  

 

Guidance

  • Any Juniors or Seniors who are interested in signing up for the driving range the week of Oct. 28- Nov. 1, please see Ms. Trent as soon as possible.
  • James Madison University and the Virginia University of Lynchburg have been added to the list of colleges visiting RHS.  JMU will be here on Oct. 24 and VUL will be here on Oct. 29th.  VUL is not associated with UVA or the University of Lynchburg.  They are historically a "second chance college" for students that may have not considered college previously. Their GPA requirement is only a 2.0 and they give significant financial aid to local students. Please sign up in the Counseling Office if you are interested in attending either the JMU or VUL College Visit.

 

Clubs

  • Are you a problem solver, careful thinker, and or enjoy a challenge? There will be a Chess Club interest meeting next Tuesday afterschool in Mr. Pickard’s room, G213. Anyone interested is welcome, and new players will be taught how to play! 
  • The French Club will be meeting Wednesday, October 23rd from 3-4:30 in the conference room.  Bring a snack to share and wear a costume!
  • NHS induction is tonight at 6 pm. All returning and new members must be present and dressed appropriately.  Please get to RHS by 5:30. Any questions see Mrs. Bullington. 

 

 Sports

  • This past Saturday the Competition Cheerleading Squad competed at the District Tournament which also determined seating for Regionals. They performed their best performance all season earning a season high score and receiving zero deductions. They placed 3rd in the District overall and earned a 2nd Seed placement for the Regional Championship held at Rustburg High School on Nov. 2nd. Congratulations Ladies! GO BIG RED!

  • October 24th: Volleyball vs. JF 5:30/7:00 ,JV Football vs. Brookville 6:30 pm

  • Congratulations to the Marching Band for their 3rd place finish at Lord Botetourt High School Band Competition.

 

Reminders:

  • Attention Seniors: The Jostens representatives will be at school two days to assist you with your graduation order. The girls ordering day will be Tuesday, October 22nd during all lunches in the cafeteria. The guys ordering day will be on Wednesday, October 23rd during all lunches in the cafeteria. All seniors need to order their cap, gown, and other graduation items on one of these days. A $75.00 deposit is requested to place an order. Extra graduation packets are available in the main office.
  • Seniors: The deadline to choose your senior portraits for the yearbook is October 31st. 
  • Yearbooks are now on sale through December 2nd. They are $50.00 each. Order forms are in the main office.
  • There will be a meeting in the Auditorium today during FLEX for all Juniors.

  • Attention students:  Are you interested in learning more about Landscaping and Hardscaping?  If so, Southern Landscape Group has an opportunity for you!  For the next six months, they are providing hands-on training through workshops from October 2019 to March 2020.  The workshops will be held once a month.  You do not have to attend all workshops and there is no age requirement.  This is a wonderful opportunity, so stop by Guidance and see Mrs. Martin for more information on how to sign up.
  • Radford University will be here today (Thursday) during flex.  Keep signing up for College Visits in the Counseling Office.
  • The next SAT Prep Session is today (Thursday) 1st through 2nd period.  Sign up in the Counseling Office if you are interested.

  • FunQuest is hiring!  They are accepting applications for all positions.  Check out the Employment Opportunities board in the Counseling Office for more details.

  • There are several FREE summer academies to work with NASA for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. Students who are interested in the STEM fields should stop by the Counseling Office for more information.
  • AP exam money is due Monday, Oct. 7th. Please turn in your $40 "deposit" to Mrs. Martin in the counseling office if you are taking an AP exam.
  • Attention Seniors:  The FAFSA Filing night is Monday, October 7th at 6pm in the Library. In order to file, both the parent and the student must attend.  Also, both must bring any 2018 tax forms that were filed.  See the Counseling Office if you have any questions.

  • The Friends of Rustburg Library are sponsoring a scholarship for volunteers of the Rustburg Public Library.  If you need community service hours AND money for college, this is a great opportunity for you!  You must sign up to be a volunteer by November 1st to be eligible for the scholarship.  See the junior/senior website for more details.
