Guidance 

  • Attention Seniors:  If you need a transcript and/or recommendation for your December and early January college application deadlines, your requests need to be in the Counselor Office no later than Wednesday, December 12.
  • Attention Juniors and Seniors:  Are you interested in the health field?  A representative from Centra Health will be in the Conference room on Tuesday, December 11 during 6th period.  Sign up in the Counseling Office if you are interested.
  • Seniors applying to Virginia Tech, if you have 3.8 GPA or higher and would like to be considered for a leadership scholarship, please see Mrs. La Roche for more details.
  • Are you a gamer that plays Final Fantasy?  Then there is a scholarship for you!  Check out details on the RHS Scholarship Website or see Mrs. La Roche with questions.  But, don't delay! The application deadline is December 15th. 
  • The College of William & Mary will be hosting one day law-related program for high school student on Saturday, February 2nd. The cost is $65 and you will be learning about the 5th Amendment, Self-Incrimination & Interrogation.  This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a future career in criminal justice, criminology, political science or law.  See Mrs. La Roche for further details.

 

Clubs  

  • Are you interested in traveling to Paris and Barcelona in the summer of 2020?  There will be an information meeting for all students and parents interested in going on the 2020 France/Spain trip in the library at 6:00 on Tuesday, December 11th.  Please see Mrs. Cartwright or a world language teacher for details.
  • The next Spanish Club meeting will be Wednesday, December 12th.  Please bring a wrapped gift to participate in the gift exchange game.  
  • The Creative Writing and Poet’s Club will be having a joint Christmas meeting on Dec. 12th from 3-5 in the library. Please bring a poem and food to share. RSVP to Sydney Nolley, Maddie Miller, or Mrs. Slate.

 

Sports 

  • Girls soccer conditioning will be held today from 3:15-5 on the band field
  • Congrats to the girls jv basketball team with their win over WC! Leading scorer was Aireona Hudson with 11 points.  Kate Hardie scored 9 points and Carly Hudnall added 7 points.  Great job ladies!!

  • Seniors can I have your attention. Banker Steel is one of the top manufacturing and construction employers in our region and they are starting a 12-week Welding Apprenticeship Program in January. Their goal is to find students that want to learn the craft of Welding and leave High School with a Full-Time job. There will be an informational meeting held after morning announcements tomorrow in the auditorium. Please be sure to attend to learn more about Banker Steel and their Apprenticeship Program.

Sports  

  • The concussion testing for athletes who have been told they need to take the test will need to meet Ms. So in room G106 today at 3:00. If you have any questions please ask your coaches.
  • Congrats to the girls jv team in their win over Altavista! Leading scorers were Maggie Mayhew and Maria Victoria with 10 points a piece.  Kate Hardie added 6 points and Alexa Ochs had 5 points. Aireona Hudson and Bailey Morris each had 4 points. Great job!!!

The faculty will play the girls and boys varsity basketball team to raise money for our custodian Mr. Cooper.  Mr. Cooper will be having back surgery.  The funds from the game will help to raise money to make that his surgery possible.  A two dollar donation will get you into the game.  Come support the faculty, students, and Mr. Cooper!

  • Poet’s Club will meet in Ms. Slate’s room Nov. 28th. Please bring a poem and snack to share.
  • French Club T-shirts cost $15. Orders are due by tomorrow (November 16th.) Please see Mrs. Cartwright for more information.

  • Boys soccer will have a brief meeting after school today at 3:15 in the cafeteria to collect any fundraiser packets. We will not run due to wet conditions, but if you participated in the fundraiser and got any non-online orders please come turn in your packet. Any fundraising packets not turned in today MUST be turned in by Friday at the latest or your non-online orders will not be placed. Packets can be turned in to the front office or to Coach McGarrity.

  • The Jostens Graduation representatives will be here again tomorrow (Nov. 16th) during all lunches in the front lobby for make-up graduation orders. This will be the last in school order day. There are allot of seniors who have not placed orders for their cap & gowns and announcements. Extra Graduation Packets are available in the front office or see Jostens on Friday. Deposit requested is $75. No deposit for Cap & Gown orders only.
  • The Jostens class ring representative will be here tomorrow (Nov. 16th ) during all lunches to collect any final class ring balances. All final balances need to be paid with cash or money order or pre-paid with credit card by calling 1-800-JOSTENS. No personal checks will be accepted. NO MONEY will be accepted at the ring dance; so anyone attending the dance needs to pay the remaining balance this Friday. All juniors and seniors are welcome to order a class ring with a $75 deposit.
  • ATTENTION SENIORS: Any senior who has not placed their graduation order may do so during lunch this Friday, Nov. 16th DEPOSIT REQUESTED IS $75.
