  • Rustburg High School Families,

    We have a new security system at Rustburg High School that requires an extra step in keeping our school safe. This new system requires you to scan your driver's license every time you come to the school. Whether you are volunteering,  signing them in tardy, or picking them up early, the system requires you to scan your driver's license. Please start to bring your license in with you each time you visit the school. Thank you for helping keep our students safe.

    • RHS will be hosting a blood drive on October 2nd from 8:30 am-2:30 pm.  If you would like to donate, please sign up in the main office.  

     

    Guidance

    • The Friends of Rustburg Library are sponsoring a scholarship for volunteers of the Rustburg Public Library.  If you need community service hours AND money for college, this is a great opportunity for you!  You must sign up to be a volunteer by November 1st to be eligible for the scholarship.  See the junior/senior website for more details.
    • There is SAT Prep Session tomorrow morning (this Saturday) at the Tech Center from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.  Sign up in the Counseling Office if you are interested.
    • Virginia Tech is offering a free two-week summer program for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders who are interested in Engineering AND who will be the first in their families to attend college. See your counselor for details.

     

    Clubs

    • There will be one final information meeting for students interested in going on the 2020 Europe trip to France and Spain. This meeting will be on Wednesday, October 2nd at 6:00 in the library. 
    • The RHS Political-History Club will meet this Friday (Sept 20th) in Mrs. Burrell's room at 3:00.  Join us for lively debate and delectable treats as we discuss our future guest speakers and trips to Historical locations.
    • Dance Club practice is cancelled for Tuesday, Sept. 24 due to Parent-teacher conferences

     

     Sports

    • Girls Soccer Conditioning will begin September 30 and will run each Monday and Wednesday of each week (weather permitting).  In order to participate, you will need to complete your physical prior to September 30 and have all pages signed and turned in.  Conditioning is open to 8th thru 12th graders interested in playing JV or Varsity Girls Soccer in the Spring. 
    • Wrestling pre-season conditioning will begin next week.  Practices will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:15-5:15. You must have an updated VHSL Physical in order to participate.  Please meet in the wrestling room located beside Mr. Torrence’s shop.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Marshall or Mr. Laughlin

    Band/Chorus/Drama

    • All students interested in going to the theater conference (VTA) there is a mandatory meeting next Monday, September 23rd at 5:00pm right after Aladdin rehearsal.  A parent MUST be in attendance with you.  Spots are limited, so you must plan to attend.  If you have any questions, please let Ms V know ASAP.

    • Juniors - the date to sign up and pay for the PSAT has been extended to Tuesday, September 17, so sign up and pick up a fee waiver before you leave today.  The cost is $17 and sign-up sheets and fee waivers are available in Guidance.  The date for the PSAT is Wednesday, October 16th.      
    • Seniors - don't forget to sign up for SAT Day by the end of the day.  SAT Day is free for all seniors and fee waivers are available for additional SAT tests.  Fee waivers are available in Guidance and must be returned by September 17.  SAT Day is Wednesday, October 16th.   
    • There will be a mandatory AP meeting for all AP students in the auditorium today (Friday September 13th) during flex.
    • Next Tuesday, September 17th, the University of Lynchburg will be coming to visit RHS during flex.  They will give an information session to interested 10th thru 12th graders and then, any seniors wishing to participate in the onsite admission process will meet with college counselors to learn their admissions decision.  Seniors wishing to participate must apply to the University of Lynchburg online by next Tuesday and let Mrs. La Roche know of their intention to participate.
    • The next SAT Prep session is today from 2nd through 3rd period in the conference room. Sign up in the Counseling Office if you are interested.
